What is Radiography?
This program prepares the you to become a radiographer. The radiographer is prepared to administer ionizing radiation for medical diagnostic imaging purposes. Emphasis is on radiation protection and quality patient care. The curriculum is comprised of specialized courses in radiography with concentrated study in the basic sciences, mathematics and general education.
Classroom instruction is closely correlated with guided clinical practice in affiliated health care facilities. The program requires four consecutive semesters and one summer commitment with an average weekly involvement of 30-40 hours.
What are my career choices?
The radiographer plays an important role on the medical team as a technical assistant to the radiologist, a physician who has specialized in the use of xrays for diagnosis and treatment. A registered radiographer is qualified to work in hospitals, physician s offices, clinics, public health projects, industrial medical clinics, veterans and military hospitals. As a skilled radiographer, you would assist the radiologist in examining for broken bones, ulcers, tumors, diseases or malfunction of various organs. The radiographer adjusts xray equipment to the correct setting for specific examinations, puts the patient into the correct position, makes the required exposure, processes the radiograph and provides patient care.
